http://www.martin.romano.org/AvilaStar/AvilaStar.htmhttp://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=3167633En el 2002 encontramos:
“John Bruce had nine children, two of whom were lost in the 'Avila Star', torpedoed by U201 in the Atlantic in about June 1942 with a number of members of British community in Bs.As.” Buscamos y encontramos:
http://www.bluestarline.org/avila1.htmlLost: 5/07/1942 when torpedoed by the German Submarine U-201, NE of the Azores, in position 38.04N, 22.48W. She was on a voyage from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Freetown, Sierra Leone with a cargo of 5,659 tons of frozen meat. Forty five crew and 17 passengers were lost.
El U-201, segun
http://www.uboat.net/boats/u201.htm was sunk seven and half months after: 17 Feb, 1943 in North Atlantic, in position 50.50N, 40.50W, by depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Viscount. 49 dead (all hands lost).
Where have all the flowers gone,
long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone,
long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Gone to young girls, every one!
When will they ever learn,
when will they ever learn?
Where have all the young girls gone,
long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone,
long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Gone to young men, every one!
When will they ever learn,
when will they ever learn?
Where have all the young men gone,
long time passing?
Where have all the young men gone,
long time ago?
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone to soldiers, every one!
When will they ever learn,
when will they ever learn?
And where have all the soldiers gone,
long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, every one!
When will they ever learn,
when will they ever learn?
And where have all the graveyards gone,
long time passing?
Where have all the graveyards gone,
long time ago?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Gone to flowers, every one!
When will they ever learn,
oh when will they ever learn?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago.
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls picked them, every one.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website has all these names on it (Civilian dead), but does not mention the following two people who figure on the list published in Buenos Aires, Argentina:
Norah H Frazer
Ernest J W Scoffield.
You will see more details about the people mentioned above on the CWGC website, except the final two.
Jeremy Howat, 29/8/02 (T. N. Frazer figura sin embargo en:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=3167627 Quizas Jeremy no sabia el nombre correcto)
"John Bruce Frazer had nine children, two of whom were lost in the 'Avila Star' (Ronald, aged 32 and Norah H Frazer), torpedoed by U201 in the Atlantic in July 1942 with a number of members of British community in BA."
