From “Drymen” in Stirlingshire, the Drummond’s ancestor was Maurice, the Prince of Hungary, who came from the Continent in 1066 and later married Queen Margaret’s Maid-of-Honour. Supporters of Robert the Bruce who granted them lands in Perthshire, Annabelle Drummond married Robert III in 1367 and Mary Drummond married King David II in 1396. The title of Earl of Perth is still held by the Drummonds whose clan seat is at Drummond Castle just south of Crieff.
