My Alexander Jamieson was a sea captain, who sailed between UK and Australia from the 1830's until he emigrated to Adelaide in 1852, and died in 1868, aged 79. I am still trying to contact descendants of his first family, mother Mary Anderson, none of whom accompanied him to Australia.
My research from UK BDM cd-rom at Mortlock Library, Adelaide, source batch file c119066, shows he was christened at Aberdeen Old Machar 12/1/1789, naming his father as Alexander Jamieson also.
It is possible that his eldest son was named Alexander and is your ancestor, but it requires more searching of the Aberdeen parish records to identify the children of the first marriage. It is a long-term goal of mine to do this,but it is very time consuming.

I am looking for descendants of the family of Helen Aiken,b 6 April 1814 in Aberdeen< Scotland, married Captain Alexander Jamieson about 1836, emigrated to South Australia in 1850's, then to New Zealand with some of her daughters, died Gisborne 6 August 1901.
Direct descendants live in Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina through son Harry (1850-1900). Really interested in Scottish family descended from siblings of Helen, who may know of her ancestors.

Seeking contact with descendants of Captain Alexander Jamieson,born 1788 in Aberdeen, married 3 times, last wife Helen Aiken, migrated to Adelaide, South Australia 1852. He died after accident Aug 3, 1868.
He had at least 21 children, with 12 from his last wife. Helen Jamieson died in New Zealand with her daughters, McPhail.

Alexander Jamieson as owner and Master obviously brought the "Rosebud" out to Australia and eventually to Melbourne where she worked the coastal trade. From the archives of the State Library of South Australia, comes a report from the newspaper, The South Australian Register, dated February 19,1852. . .
"Rosebud" (Brig) 139 tons, Jamieson, Master, discharging from London. A. L. Elder & Co., Agents."
Also an advertisement in the same paper of Friday, February 27,1852 reads . . .
"For Melbourne. To sail on Saturday next, the 28th instant. The fine A1 Clipper Schooner "Rosebud" 139 tons Register, Jamieson, Master is now taking in cargo for Melbourne and will be despatched on Saturday next."

She came to Australia with the family in 1852, and married Frederick Wilhelm Carl Heinrich Wurm, and had a large family,
Catherine, details sketchy, born ca 1840, came to Australia, lost track.
I presume she died before 1842.

Married AJ 25 August 1842, St. Thomas's Church, Stepney
She had 10 children with AJ, the eldest was my great grandmother, Helen Aiken Jamieson, born 29 July in Stepney, London, the youngest was Henry William Jamieson( your ancestor), born 9th July 1859, in Yatala House, Port Adelaide and noted as AJ's 23rd child.

Jane Findlater was born in Gamrie in 1806, now called Gardenstown, on Gamrie Bay near Banff, the youngest daughter of 5 children of Alexander Findlater and Ann Herd..
Alexander James Jamieson married Jane Findlater on 6 Aug 1826 in Marnoch, Banff, Aberdeenshire.
It was very unusual in those days for people to marry outside of their local district, so I wonder if the Jamiesons came from this area also. Gamrie was a relatively prosperous farming area, and as Alexander Jamieson's father James Jamieson was shown as a farmer on the Jamieson/Aiken marriage certificate, it is possible his farm was in this area.

There is a CD in existence with the church(kirk) records which cover the Findlaters et al.

When I have the Findlater file up to date I shall send you a copy.

I have still found only 2 children from the Jamieson/Findlater marriage and the sequence seems to be
6 Aug 1826 Marriage of AJ and JF in Gamrie, Scotland
16 Sept 1827 Christening of Alexander Andrew Jamieson in St.Dunstan's Stepney, London
4 April 1830 Christening of John Pirie Jamieson in St. Dunstan's
26 Sept 1833 Marriage of AJ and Mary Wilson in St.Dunstan's
18 June 1834 Christening of Mary Jamieson in St.Dunstan's.

If the normal pattern of those days was followed, Mary Wilson was brought in as the nanny/governess for the children, and then became AJ's second wife, so poor Jane Findlater would have died between 1830 and 1833, I haven't found any record yet, but will keep looking.
The gap between 1827 and 1830 and 1833 could mean other children were born which we haven't traced yet.
Also AAJ and JPJ seem to have disappeared, they didn't come to Australia in 1853, probably they married and led a separate life, but they could have gone back to their mother's family in Gamrie, lots of possibilities.
